Crowdfunding during a bear market

This week we’ve got a plethora of new deals, including two new offerings from AcreTrader, the Akron Timber Tract, and Round Lake Farm. We’ll also take a look at the 2022 Equity Crowdfunding Conference, hosted by StartupStarter in Los Angeles.

We’ll finish with a look at CalTier’s latest round of Series A Funding, and two podcasts, one from Fundrise focused on what they believe is an upcoming recession, as well as a round-table discussion on “The Real Estate Crowdfunding Show,” hosted by our very own Dr. Adam Gower that looks at what investors need to know going into a bear market

Exciting stuff. Let’s get into it.

New Crowdfunding Platform Deals

We’ll start off with two new productive farmland offerings available at AcreTrader. The first, the Akron Timber Tract, is a 342-acre continuous tract of farmland that sits 30 minutes south of Tuscaloosa, in Hale County, AL. The farm itself is comprised of a strong stand of timber, located in an area with a long and storied history in the timber business, with easy access to timber processors and manufacturers that use timber in their operations.

The land is also easily accessible to several nearby metros, including Montgomery which is two hours to the west, and Birmingham, which is roughly one and a half hours to the north. Check out the Akron Timber Tract webinar on AcreTrader, here

Next, we’ve got the Round Lake Farm, a 296-acre soybean and corn farm in scenic Southern Michigan, in Hillsdale and Van Buren Counties. The farm consists of three parcels, two of which are linked, only divided by a small road. The region is one of the strongest farming areas in the Upper Midwest, with more than 3,500 agricultural producers nearby.

Something unique to this deal is the fact that grain bins come along with the farm- with $1 million of raised funds to go to the purchase of grain bins. These bins have the potential to store up to 1 million bushels of various crops and may bring in as much as $100,000 in extra income for investors each year. Read more at AcreTrader, here

Crowdfunding Platform Updates

In other news, San Diego-based fintech crowdfunding platform CalTier recently launched a $5 million Series A funding round. The new round comes on the heel of the successful closing of a previous $1.1 million seed round. The firm plans to use this latest Series A round for several purposes, including improving its platform, offering additional services, and outreach with the goal of growing its current investor base. We’ll end things with a look at two podcasts you need to review if you’re at all worried about the prospect of an impending bear market. While real estate assets have historically showed some level of countercyclical resistance to economic downturns and inflation, you don’t want to count on the market alone- you should also be aware of conditions on the ground, and invest accordingly.

If you’re unsure of where to get started understanding this Brave New World, we would suggest starting with these two podcasts. The first, “The Incoming Recession” — Episode 4 of Onward, a Fundrise podcast, is a 3-part podcast episode that covers the current state of Fundrise’s portfolio, what they’ve learned from previous economic downturns and a Q&A segment where Fundrise answers questions related to the current state of the American economy. Another must-listen podcast for anyone interested in the future of the markets, and real estate, in particular, is this June 2nd roundtable discussion with Dr. Adam Gower, Chris Finlay, Orest Mandzy, Chris Rising, and other real estate and crowdfunding industry luminaries. The topic of discussion is ‘What is a bear market in real estate and are we in one?’ You won’t get fresher or more in-tune perspectives about the real estate crowdfunding space anywhere, so definitely give this a listen for a glimpse of what you can expect to see in the next 6 months and beyond. That’s all for today, but we’ll see you next week with your usual dose of real estate crowdfunding news.
